When I was first invited to check out Wolf Mountain Ski Resort’s Ski School, I was most excited for my five-year-old daughter. She is an outdoorsy, adventurous little dare-devil so an experience like this is right up her alley. The night before I laid out our warm clothes and made a last minute dash to Scheel’s for these awesome Gortex Gordini Ski Gloves. Snagged those little beauties for half price at their end of season sale!

Lily had never been skiing before and I had never dressed a child for skiing so Kathy from Adventure Mom’s infographic came in handy.

Around 10 pm it started to sink in that I would also be relearning how to ski with my little girl. As I read through ski tips for beginners, a little panic started to creep in. Tips like “don’t worry – you are going to fall MANY TIMES” started to make me nervous. Instead I focused on other helpful ski tips like – don’t wear jeans under your ski pants. Very helpful!

The next morning we made the drive up Ogden Canyon and waved good-bye to the inversion. The blue skies of Eden, Utah welcomed us and we couldn’t wait to get out on the slopes at the ski resort.

The employees at Diamond Peak Mountain Sports were very knowledgeable and friendly – a plus for a beginning skier like me! They were able to quickly outfit our large group of mommy bloggers and children with the right ski equipment – that’s no easy task! They made sure that every ski boot fit perfectly before we hit the slopes.

Wolf Mountain Ski Resort class

The instructors at the Wolf Mountain Resort ski school were ready for us and divided the children into age and experience levels. I appreciated that they knelt down on the children’s level to introduce themselves and were so positive with the children. I was tempted to tag along with my daughter’s class and take pictures, but I ended up joining three other bloggers with Coach Dave for our first ski lesson.

I have to admit that I had a blast skiing. Was I nervous – yes! Was I out-skiied by five year olds – yes! But I conquered my fourth-grade fear and had a great time doing it with my daughter. We can do hard things together. Wolf Mountain Ski Resort was the ideal place for me to be reintroduced to this winter sport.

After our ski lesson, we had lunch at the newly remodeled lodge. Loved being able to ski right up and run in for a hot meal. My daughter rushed through lunch and was eager to get back on the slopes.

After lunch I discovered how vital a good ski instructor is for your child. Lily and I attempted the bunny hill several times on our own and it did not run as smoothly as our ski lesson. When she fell it was tricky for me to ski back to her and try to help her up. Even getting our boots on by ourselves was quite the accomplishment. Lesson learned – leave teaching to the experts at Wolf Mountain and then enjoy skiing together when you’ve both mastered it! Lily can’t wait to take another lesson and I can’t wait to go on a skiing date with my husband!
