Midway Ice Castles - Things to do in Utah

The Midway Ice Castles are back and my children are begging to go! It will be our third year visiting and it is a family tradition that we cannot miss. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for four tickets at the end of this post so you can surprise your children, too!

With over 25,000,000 pounds of beautifully sculpted ice making up the castle, we are always excited to see what the designers will come up with next.  This year features giant archways, tunnels, slot canyons, an ice slide, caverns, glacial waterfalls, and even a frozen throne!

I’m not the only one that LOVES them. Check out these kid reviews! My personal favorite line … “Make sure you visit it once in your life … or twice … or three times!” You got it kid! We’ll see you there.

Before you go to the ice castles – check out these tips!

  • Dress your children in warm layers. Snow pants, gloves, and hats are a must for little buns sliding on the amazing ice slide!
  • Wear snow boots with traction. We were all in boots and had no trouble with slipping.
  • Bring hand warmers if your gloves aren’t water proof. You can get a value pack at Costco or on Amazon.com. We like these – HotHands Hand Warmers 10 Pair Value Pack.
  • Make a day or a weekend of it! This year we are planning a trip to the Homestead Resort as part of our visit to the Ice Castles. Excited for our day time adventure in the ice and snow and then our relaxing evening in the Homestead hot tubs! Check out a few of our family’s favorite things to in Midway!
  • Come on a week day if you can, especially if you have small children. Weekends are popular in Utah! We went on a Thursday and my children were able to roam and explore to their hearts’ content!
  • Visit soon! The ice castles are open weather permitting.
  • Bring all ages – even my two year old loved it when we took him for the first time!
  • Make sure to have your camera as it is a breathtaking place for pictures! When we visit on snowy days, I opt to take pics with my phone camera since it has a waterproof case.
  • Get tickets online in advance! They are available at a discounted rate and reserve your time. Times are already selling out so reserve yours soon!

I have not been to the Midway Ice Castles but I’ve seen the youtube videos and have heard great things about them. I would love to take my family to them!

I haven’t been to Midway in a very long time! The last time I was there was probably for the Biathlon for the 2002 Winter Olympics! Before that, when I was a little girl, we used to visit Swiss Days. I’d love to go back though!

We keep saying that we are going to head up to Midway. There seems to be quite a few family oriented things throughout the year that we plan on going to, but I always forget to put the information into my organizer so I can remember. I think my kids would LOVE this!

Been anxious to go to the ice castles for ages! Making sure it happens when I’m out in February. Love Midway for hiking, romantic bed and breakfast getaways and relaxing vacations.

You will love it! They are hoping to be open through March this year so you should totally do it. I am sure that Emmett will love the slide as much as my kiddos do!

We are coming down to Utah in February and I want to see the ice castles while I am down there. We have shown pictures of them to the girls and I am super excited!!

Both the crater and the ice castles have been on my radar for years but I haven’t gone yet. Do you think the temperature of the crater is okay for littles? Mine are 6 and 4.

Last year was our first year visiting the Ice Castle-along with everyone else in the state trying to see it before it melted (it was so warm!). I’m excited to go back this year when there are few people.a week night, for sure.
