Instagram can be a valuable resource for connecting with your family! Through hashtags, geotags, and other useful Instagram tools you can connect, research, explore, and more.

Why use hashtags?

• Hashtags organize and categorize posts and videos.
• Hashtags connect you with other people interested in the same content.  

Tips for using hashtags:

• Hashtags only work on public accounts because they are searchable.
• Do not use spaces or special characters.
• You can use numbers. 
• Stay on topic. Only use hashtags relative to your posts so people can find what they are looking for.

The following are some of my favorite genealogy-related hashtags to use on Instagram. This list is not all-inclusive. Leave your favorite hashtags in the comments and I will add them in!

You can also use more specific hashtags. I like to use family hashtags like #ZacherFamily #AshbyFamily etc. I will also use place hashtags when I talk about where my ancestors lived ie #WeimarGermany #PaysonUtah.
